Berkshire Hospitality Career Starter Kit

If you live in Berkshire and are Unemployed we have funding to provide you with training and a certified Level 2 Food safety Qualification that will help you achieve your goal.

Funded by Skills Support for the Unemployed and Skills Support for the Workforce from the European Social Fund, Skills for Progress are delighted to be able to offer this training package to unemployed job hunters looking to get started in a career in catering.

The Berkshire Hospitality Career programme is made up of two sections. The first is our Level 2 Food Safety Qualification and the second is our Employability Skills Course.

The Level 2 Food Safety Course has been created and presented by Stuart Blakeledge, a Skills For Progress mentor with over a decade of senior catering experience as a chef and kitchen manager. This means the course has practical hospitality experience incorporated into it’s syllabus which covers a variety of subjects including the legal responsibilities of food workers and their employers aswell as providing context to the laws that govern the industry. Alongside the regulatory side of hospitality, this course provides practical knowledge on how to work efficiently and safely giving the learner a valuable inside to their new chosen career. Upon completion of this part of the course you will receive a Level 2 Food Safety Qualification certified by Open Awards, an invaluable addition to your CV that will set you apart from other applicants.

The Employability Skills Course is designed to help learners track down the catering role that is right for them, and give them the skills to develop with in that role and the wider hospitality industry.

Learn how to master hospitality specific Job interviews, promotional interviews and learn how to manage a team confidently. Also learn valuable mental health skills, such as stress management in a catering setting and how to support your self and others.
