The responsibility shift into senior care roles can be significant for some people. The change of expectations, dynamics of the teams you work with and change in expectations can mean that there are some unexpected challenges.
Working with the sector, we have endeavoured to capture these challenges in a 4-6 week course to prepare people who are ready to make that shift and get a promotion.
Maybe you have an interview arranged for a promotion, or you want to get a promotion and would like us to arrange for you to have an interview for a role, this Skills Bootcamp is for you.
The Preparation for Senior Social Care Roles Skills Bootcamp has been written with Social Care Leaders to give you the skills and knowledge you need to walk into a more senior position.
The course is delivered through online self-study units, with some tutor sessions local to you or delivered over Zoom.

- Communication
- Performance management
- Managing difficult conversations and situations
- Reflective practice
- Mentoring and coaching
- Paperwork
- Professional development opportunities and career pathways

Who this course is for
Skills Bootcamps are free, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks. They are for people looking for a new role or job opportunity, or those that want to develop in their current role, or those who are self-employed and want to grow their business. You will be offered an interview with an employer once you complete your course, if you are unemployed. If you claim Universal Credit, you can apply and continue to claim benefits.
Entry requirements
You must:
- be aged 19 or over,
- have the right to work in the UK,
- live in England,
- live or work in West Sussex,
- have lived in the UK for 3 years, or have a valid exemption.
What you’ll learn
You will learn a number of management and leadership skills to prepare you for taking on a more senior role, such as delegation, communication, boundaries, managing others, developing colleagues and even a bit about paperwork.
Where is it?
This Skills Bootcamp is hybrid, meaning some of it is online self-study, some workplace/homework activities and some delivered live (depending on your availability this may be online or in-person, such as a local library or community centre).
What you’ll need to bring
You will need a device that can access the internet and access to the Zoom app.
How you’ll be assessed
You will complete online assessments for each of the modules as you work through this course.

This skills bootcamp is designed to give you an advantage when applying for lead roles, such as:
- Senior care assistant
- Senior support worker
- Care team leader
- Supervisor
